Empowering Nonprofits: The Venango Area Community Foundation Discretionary Grant

Since 1979, the Venango Area Community Foundation Discretionary Grant has played a crucial role in strengthening local nonprofits by providing funding for essential programs, innovative projects, and community-driven initiatives. This grant was established to support organizations that serve the residents of Venango County, ensuring that vital programs can continue to meet the needs of the community.

Each year, this fund helps shape the future of Venango County by addressing pressing local needs. Whether it’s supporting educational initiatives, expanding community services, or helping organizations enhance their programs, this grant ensures that nonprofits working to create positive change have the resources they need to make a lasting impact.

In just the past year, the discretionary grant has supported more than a dozen local organizations, funding projects that enrich lives, create opportunities, and strengthen communities across the region. One of those organizations, the Franklin Sport Chapter (#988) of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), recently received a grant that transformed the way they engage and educate young people through their Young Eagles program.

Grant Impact: Supporting the Young Eagles Program

The Young Eagles program is a nationwide initiative designed to introduce young people to aviation through hands-on experiences and mentorship. Operated locally by Franklin Sport Chapter (#988) of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the program provides young participants with their first free flight experience, fostering an early interest in STEM careers and aviation.

Before receiving the grant, the program relied on a pen-and-paper system for registration and event coordination, which could take months to process. Managing paperwork was time-consuming for volunteers and made it difficult to track participant data efficiently.

Thanks to the support of the Venango Area Community Foundation Discretionary Grant, the Franklin Sport Chapter purchased iPads to streamline their processes. These devices allowed the program to digitize registration, improve event coordination, and enhance the overall participant experience.

“The grant has been transformative for our Young Eagles program,” said Jackson Donovan, Young Eagles Coordinator. “By streamlining our processes, we’ve not only reduced administrative burdens but also enhanced our capacity to inspire the next generation of aviators.”

With these technology upgrades, the program can register participants faster, making it easier for families to get involved. Volunteers can now focus more on mentoring young aviators rather than managing paperwork, helping the program expand its reach and introduce more students to the world of aviation.

A Legacy of Strengthening Nonprofits

The Venango Area Community Foundation Discretionary Grant is just one of many funds managed by Bridge Builders Community Foundations, designed to empower local nonprofits and community organizations.

Since its establishment, the grant has helped dozens of organizations enhance their programs, grow their impact, and better serve the residents of Venango County. Funding has supported initiatives in education, healthcare, community development, and the arts, making a meaningful difference across the region.

But the work doesn’t stop here. As the needs of Venango County evolve, this grant continues to adapt and expand, ensuring that funding is available for organizations that are making a difference where it matters most.
