The Margery L. Himes Memorial Scholarship: Creating Opportunities, Changing Lives

Higher education can open doors, but for many students, the financial burden makes it feel out of reach. That’s why the Margery L. Himes Memorial Scholarship exists—to break down barriers and help students turn their academic dreams into reality.

Established in 2013, this scholarship honors the legacy of Helen Lytle and Leslie Himes, two individuals who believed in the power of education. It provides critical financial support to students from Venango, Clarion, Armstrong, and Butler Counties, helping them move forward in their college journey.

Since 2021 alone, the scholarship has awarded over $140,000 to nearly 40 students, making a real impact in the lives of those striving for a better future.

One of those students is Jasey Donovan, a first-generation college student at the University of Pittsburgh, where he’s studying Psychology with a concentration in Pre-Dentistry. Jasey received the Margery L. Himes Scholarship in 2022, allowing him to focus on his education without the constant stress of financial strain.

“Coming from a single-income household, my parents didn’t have the option to contribute to my schooling like many of my peers’ parents did. Having to pay for college completely alone was an exhausting and stressful challenge. However, with the assistance I received from Bridge Builders and the Margery L. Himes Scholarship, I was able to work through this challenge quite easily!”

With a future in dentistry, Jasey’s goal is to provide affordable care to those in need, giving back to the kind of community that supported him.
