Bridge Builders Community Foundations (BBCF) is introducing a reimagined approach to grantmaking designed to make the application process clearer and more efficient while creating opportunities for greater community impact.
For more than 50 years, BBCF has worked alongside nonprofits, schools, municipalities, and community partners to invest charitable resources throughout Venango, Forest and Clarion Counties in Pennsylvania. As the needs of the region continue to evolve, BBCF is also taking a closer look at how its grantmaking can best impact our communities that we serve and support the organizations working to better our area.
Grantmaking Reimagined reflects a shift toward more focused, strategic investments, including fewer, higher-dollar grants with the potential to make a deeper and more meaningful impact.
At the same time, BBCF recognizes that organizations should be able to spend more of their time serving their communities and less time navigating paperwork. The redesigned process is intended to make expectations clearer from the beginning and reduce the amount of work required before BBCF and an applicant determine whether a funding opportunity is a strong fit.
A More Focused Application Process
Under the new process, BBCF will publish Requests for Proposals (RFPs) outlining available funding opportunities, eligibility requirements, priorities, timelines, and expectations.
Organizations interested in an opportunity will begin by submitting a brief Letter of Intent (LOI) describing their organization, proposed project, community need, and anticipated impact.
BBCF will review those initial submissions and invite selected organizations to complete a full grant proposal. Depending on the funding opportunity, the process may also include conversations, interviews, or site visits that allow BBCF to better understand the proposed work and the organization behind it.
By reserving the more detailed application process for projects that demonstrate strong alignment with a funding opportunity, BBCF hopes to make better use of both applicants’ time and its own resources.
From Proposal to Impact
The changes are about more than simplifying an application.
BBCF’s goal is to focus its grantmaking where charitable dollars can make a meaningful difference, strengthen relationships with community partners and better understand the outcomes those investments help create.
For grant recipients, that relationship continues beyond the award itself. Reporting on project outcomes and measurable impact will help BBCF and its partners learn from the work being done and better understand how grant funding is advancing important initiatives throughout the region.
Grantmaking Reimagined is ultimately about creating a process that works better for everyone involved: clearer opportunities for applicants, less unnecessary administrative work, more intentional funding decisions, and a stronger focus on lasting community impact.
