For families of individuals with autism, navigating everyday challenges can feel overwhelming—especially when it comes to securing basic necessities that align with their unique needs. That’s where Autism Stands steps in.
Founded in 2014, the Autism Stands Fund was created to raise awareness, foster inclusion, and provide tangible support for individuals with autism and their families. Through advocacy, education, and resource distribution, Autism Stands works not just to build paths but to pave roads toward a more inclusive future.
The Blue Box Program: Providing Food for Sensory & Dietary Needs
One of Autism Stands’ most impactful initiatives is the Blue Box Program, a food distribution effort that helps autistic individuals receive meals tailored to their specific sensory and dietary needs.
Through a partnership with the St. Elizabeth Center, this program ensures that families facing food insecurity receive meals that accommodate sensory sensitivities, dietary restrictions, and other unique challenges.
Many individuals on the autism spectrum struggle with food aversions or sensitivities, making traditional food assistance programs difficult to navigate. The Blue Box Program removes this barrier, ensuring that no one in the autism community is left behind.
“The Blue Box program was created to ensure that individuals with autism and sensory needs have access to essential resources that support their uniqueness. Our goal is to foster inclusion and understanding for those who are often overlooked. Seeing the impact this program has on families reminds me why this work is so important.” – Brandy Hinojosa, Autism Stands Founder
The Story Behind Autism Stands
Autism Stands was founded by Brandy Hinojosa, a mother with firsthand experience navigating the complexities of raising children on the autism spectrum. Recognizing the critical gaps in resources available to families, she launched Autism Stands to provide real solutions and advocate for meaningful change.
By listening to families, caregivers, and individuals on the spectrum, Autism Stands continuously adapts to meet the most pressing needs of the community. Whether through food access programs like the Blue Box, advocacy efforts, or awareness initiatives, Autism Stands is dedicated to making a lasting impact.
