With less than one month until the Second Annual Week of Giving, Bridge Builders Community Foundations has seen an increase in the number of nonprofits signed up to participate.

“We are ecstatic about the nonprofits who chose to join in on the second Week of Giving. We’ve gone from 88 nonprofits and funds last year, to more than 125 this year,” said Trenton Moulin, executive director of BBCF. “With the increase in nonprofits, we plan to see an increase in donors, making even more of an impact in our community”

The Week of Giving will take place March 19 through March 23 and provides the opportunity to give to a variety of organizations representing categories such as arts and cultural, children and youth, environmental/conservation, and healthcare, scholarships and more.

“Whether it’s $25 or $1,000, any contribution towards the Week of Giving supports the organizations making a difference in our region,” said Moulin. “This campaign isn’t only about donations; it’s about educating people on our community’s needs and the nonprofits that are meeting those needs. So many nonprofits of all sizes are making our area a better place and we want to celebrate that and showcase all that charities do in our area.”

Last year, BBCF was able to give almost $104,000 from more than 300 donors to 88 local nonprofits and funds, with a total of $20,000 in matching funds provided by local businesses. This year the stretch pool is already over $30,000. Major supporters are Northwest Bank and the Paul & Ellen Flickner Charitable Fund. These funds will be added onto every donation during the Week of Giving on a prorated basis. This will make a contribution during the Week of Giving go even further for the nonprofits that are supported.

“Last year’s Week of Giving was a huge success and from seeing the excitement already around the second annual event, we know we will make even more of a philanthropic impact this year,” said Moulin.

Bridge Builders Community Foundations announces partnership with Contributary, a Giving Day platform that engages more donors and raises more money

OIL CITY, PA — Building on the success of its inaugural Week of Giving this year, Bridge Builders Community Foundations will reveal a new look in March 2018 to increase the excitement for its weeklong online fundraiser.

The community foundation partnered with Contributary, an online Giving Day platform headquartered in State College, Pa to help host the next Week of Giving slated for the week of March 19th though the 23rd of 2018.

“The initial Week of Giving in 2017 was a success and we look to build on this next year. Inspiring and cultivating giving in our area is a key component of the Community Foundation, “said Trenton Moulin, executive director of Bridge Builders Community y Foundations.  “The Week of Giving is an exciting, secure way to give and impact our community.  This partnership with Contributary will offer a safe, secure and scalable process to connect with donors before and during the Week of Giving this coming March. ”

The inaugural Week of Giving in March 2017 raised $105,000 for 88 nonprofits and BBCF Funds serving Clarion, Forest, Venango and Jefferson counties.

Nearly 200 community foundations around the country host similar events and raise hundreds of millions of dollars for local nonprofits each year. Contributary began offering its product to community foundations after helping raise $1.4 million for 147 nonprofits in 36 hours last May with Centre Gives in State College.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Bridge Builders Community Foundations and its Week of Giving,” Scott Woods, president of Contributary, said. “Giving Days have tremendous power to rally a community. People want to support their favorite local nonprofit causes, and they’re proud of where they live. As such, our Giving Day platform is strong, secure and designed to engage and inspire people.”

By partnering with Contributary, BBCF was able to find a local vendor to offer a secure, custom product that will increase the interest and level of philanthropy within the community.

“We will be announcing many exciting changes in the near future.  The Staff, Trustees and Affiliate Directors of the Community Foundation look forward to this new partnership and what it means for nonprofits in our footprint.” Moulin said.

ABOUT BRIDGE BUILDERS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Venango Area Community Foundation was founded on April 30, 1975. The first discretionary fund was created within the Venango Area Community Foundation portfolio in  June 1976 by Galena Rew Harrington and Mary E. Rew, both of Franklin, who were two local community volunteers who wanted to make a difference.  They started that initial endowment with a gift and trust transfer totaling almost $80,000.

Today that endowment still exists as the oldest continued endowment in Bridge Builders Community Foundations’ portfolio, and distributes approximately $5,000 annually to local causes every year.

The Venango Area Community Foundation changed its name to Bridge Builders Community Foundations in 2006 and created affiliates to serve the Venango, Clarion, Forest and most recently Punxsutawney area to leverage assets, fund management, and giving.

It took a long time to evolve as a community foundation, and to become the umbrella foundation serving our four area affiliates.

Through economic hardships, staff changes, and social impact over the years we have been able to uphold our values and stay true to what we were founded on 40 years ago.

The hope of a better, stronger community.

Week of Giving will support rural communities and local charities across four counties

Oil City, PA–Bridge Builders Community Foundations will launch the first area Week of Giving event to spur collective charitable giving that will be pro-rated through the foundation and will allow donors to give to numerous nonprofits throughout Clarion, Forest and Venango counties as well as the community of Punxsutawney.
The Week of Giving event kicks off on Monday, March 20th at 8 AM and will run until 11:59 PM on Friday, March 24th.

Trenton Moulin, executive director of Bridge Builders Community Foundations, says, “The power of a giving campaign of this size is the potential impact it can have to really change some things and move the needle on issues important to our rural communities.”

Through its extensive work with nonprofits Bridge Builders knows all too well the struggles nonprofits face in raising money and creating change.

“Fundraising has become more competitive in today’s high tech world.  We know that there are wonderful causes and projects that lack adequate funding to turn today’s challenges into an opportunity for immense growth and capacity for tomorrow.”

According to Moulin the good news for smaller nonprofits is that online giving is steadily on the rise year-after-year nation-wide.  In 2016 online giving grew by 17%, with small nonprofits seeing the biggest increase in years.
“People want to give, but they need it to be really easy and really fast.  Online giving allows them to give on their time and makes giving easier than ever.”

The foundation has over 75 nonprofits participating this year.  Each one will be listed on the donation page of the www.bbcfgives.org web site.  Each nonprofit will be listed alphabetically and by category so even if donors don’t know what every organization does they can read their profiles and select nonprofits who align with the causes they care about.

Donors can select multiple nonprofits to give to within the same transaction, and also allocate varying contributions to each nonprofit selected.  Donations received through the Week of Giving event are fully tax deductible donations under applicable federal and state laws.

“The platform we’ve custom developed will be seamless and should only take the average donor a couple of minutes to complete.”

Similar to giving campaigns in larger markets like Erie and Pittsburgh donations will be prorated so the giving goes even further. Thanks to the generosity of Northwest Bank, who is the lead Partner in Giving sponsor and the generosity of the foundation all donations received during the week will be prorated.

Nonprofits can also win prizes for the most individual donations raised, the largest grand total raised and the most creative Week of Giving promotions.

While Moulin is excited about the potential to raise a lot of money in a very short window for local nonprofits, he stresses that this campaign is also about educating people on why our community needs people to give. “Our philosophy has always been that anyone can be a philanthropist and we want to show them the power they have to make a real difference.”

Additionally companies can participate by pledging to match their employee contributions up to a certain amount.  Corporate pledge forms are available online.  Bridge Builders will be acknowledging those businesses that choose to step up their giving capacity by sponsoring the campaign or giving corporate matches.

“Now is the perfect time for everyone to step up together, during this week, and contribute something.  We can get ahead of some things that have held us back as a community.  We know that government and bureaucracies sometimes move too slow to address real-time needs.  We’re putting you–the donor–in the driver seat.  You choose your cause and you choose what you want to give.”

A Week of Giving results press conference and celebration will be held Friday, April 7th at 10 AM in Oil City to announce the grand totals and hand out checks to each participating nonprofit.

Week of Giving Partner in Giving sponsor is Northwest Bank and Community Outreach sponsors include Explore Your Town, LLC, which includes Explore Venango, Explore Clarion and Explore Jefferson PA media.

Donations can be given online at bbcfgives.org between 8 AM on March 20th through March 24th at 11:59 PM:

Giving campaign will support rural communities and local charities across four counties

Oil City, PA--Bridge Builders Community Foundations will launch the first area Week of Giving event this year to spur collective charitable giving that will be pro-rated through the foundation and will allow donors to give to numerous nonprofits throughout Clarion, Forest and Venango counties as well as the community of Punxsutawney.

The Week of Giving event kicks off on Monday, March 20 at 8 AM and will run until 11:59 PM on Friday, March 24.

Trenton Moulin, executive director of Bridge Builders Community Foundations, says, “Other communities in Western Pennsylvania such as Erie and Pittsburgh have successfully launched giving campaigns and we believe now is the perfect time to develop a similar campaign that will address the needs of our rural communities and the charities that support them.”

The campaign was the next natural step in supporting area nonprofits after Bridge Builders Community Foundations launched their “Community Wish List” initiative a few years ago.

“We had dozens of nonprofits who weren’t eligible for grants through the foundation’s funds or who needed additional funding to complete a project, so we began posting an up-to-date list of those nonprofits on our web site and tracking their needs. We also offered to accept donations on their behalf and manage those donations at no cost to them.  We just wanted to spur more philanthropy and more positive outcomes for the communities we serve.  The Week of Giving takes that idea to the next level.”

Through its extensive work with nonprofits Bridge Builders knows all too well the struggles nonprofits face in raising money and creating change.

“We also know that funding your mission often takes up time and resources most nonprofits lack.  Fundraising has become more competitive in today’s high tech world.  We know that there are wonderful causes and projects that lack adequate funding to turn today’s challenges into an opportunity for immense growth and capacity for tomorrow.”

Moulin stresses that while other campaigns exist to collectively spur fundraising, this will be different.

“The nonprofits are completely in the driver’s seat.  They decide if they want to participate and at what level.  They’re given complete resources and get their donations in hand quickly.  Also, those donations are prorated so the giving goes even further. This campaign isn’t just about getting money, it’s also about educating people on why our community needs people to give.  Our philosophy has always been that anyone can be a philanthropist and we want to show them the power of philanthropy.”

The foundation has been planning the new campaign for the last several months, which includes a new web site design, online and mobile giving platform, as well as resources for participating nonprofits.

The foundation will host two kick-off events for all participating nonprofits on Tuesday, January 24th from 10 AM to noon at the National Transit located at 206 Seneca Street in Oil City and on Wednesday, January 25th from 10 AM to noon at the Clarion American Legion Hall located at 530 Main Street in Clarion.  “We’re going to review the guidelines of the giving campaign as well as walk them through all the tools, resources and best practices they will need to engage their stakeholders and net more donations in their name.  It’s about change through collective visibility, storytelling, and philanthropy.”

Nonprofits will be able to sign-up for participation online until February 15, and must be a registered 501(c)3 to receive donations through Bridge Builders Community Foundations.

Additionally companies can participate by pledging to match their employee contributions up to a certain amount.  Corporate pledge forms are available online.

“We’re going to be acknowledging those businesses that choose to step up their giving capacity by sponsoring the campaign or giving corporate matches.  It will be very exciting to see how much giving, and collective impact, we can create over this short week.”

A Week of Giving results press conference and celebration will be held Friday, April 7th at 10 AM in Oil City to announce the grand totals and hand out checks to each participating nonprofit.  Special prizes will be awarded to the nonprofit with the most individual donations, the largest monetary amount of donations as well as the most creative and engaging Week of Giving marketing campaign.

Community outreach sponsors for the Week of Giving event include Explore Your Town, LLC, which includes Explore Venango and Explore Clarion media.
