The following are frequently asked questions that we receive about the scholarship application process. If your question is not answered below, please contact us with any further questions that you may have.
Who is eligible to apply?
Any high school or college student from Venango, Clarion, Forest, or the Punxsutawney Area is eligible to apply.
How do I apply?
The link to complete our online application can be found on our website bbcf.org under the general “Scholarships” heading tab.
When does the application open?
We will begin accepting applications on January 28, 2019. A timeline of the whole scholarship application process may also be found under the general “Scholarships” heading tab on our website.
When is the application due?
The application is due April 5th, 2019. A timeline of the whole scholarship application process may also be found under the general “Scholarships” heading tab on our website.
Will Bridge Builders Community Foundations release any of the personal information that I submit?
All information received is confidential and will only be reviewed by the appropriate scholarship review committee members who agree to maintain confidentiality.
When will I be notified of the decision?
All students who submit an application will receive a notification in the mail by the end of June.
What is a Student Aid Report (SAR)?
A Student Aid Report (SAR) is a paper or electronic document that gives you basic information about your eligibility for federal financial aid. The report includes your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) lists your answers to the questions on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
How are scholarship recipients determined?
Each scholarship application is thoughtfully and carefully reviewed by a selection committee. The selection criteria that the committee uses in the selection process is determined by the donor(s) or founder(s) of the scholarship fund at the time the fund was established.
Will the scholarship awards cover the entire cost of my college education?
No, scholarship awards are intended to provide only partial support. Scholarships offer varying award amounts depending on the size of the fund, the number of qualified applicants, and the criteria of the fund. Students should speak to high school guidance counselors and college advisors about additional sources of financial aid.
How do I know if my application is complete?
After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation via email.
I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?
No, applications will not be accepted after the due date.
Will incomplete or unsubmitted applications be evaluated?
No, only complete, submitted applications will be evaluated and considered for awards.
If I receive a scholarship one year, will I automatically receive an award for the following year?
No, students must complete the application process again in order to be considered for a renewal scholarship.
If I am awarded a scholarship, do I get the check?
No, all awards will be disbursed directly to the educational institution.
What can my scholarship be used for?
The scholarship can be used toward any item within your school’s Financial Aid Office’s determined cost of attendance, which includes tuition, fees, room, board, books, personal/living expenses, and transportation.
Can I reapply each year?
Yes, students are able and encouraged to reapply each year.
May I receive more than one scholarship?
Yes, students may be eligible to receive more than one scholarship.
When will my school receive my scholarship money?
Any award over $1,000 will be split into two semesters. We make our fall disbursements in the middle of September and our spring disbursements in the beginning of February.
